Mr. Benford was born August 9, 1935 in Andrews, SC, son of the late Henry A. Benford and Reba Parsons Benford. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Andrews, Fellowship No. 400 Masonic Lodge, Omar Shriners, Past President of Painting & Decorating Contractors of America, Charleston Chapter, past member of The Associated General Contractors of America and The American Sub-Contractors Association of Charleston. He was the Vice President and Secretary of Coastal Painting Contractors, Inc. and Partner of IBI Investment Company. Surviving are his wife, Mary Maynor Benford of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter, Jeannie B. Dobson and her husband, Allen of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Michael E. Benford of Mt. Pleasant, SC; four sisters, Jenelle B. Nelson, Greensboro, NC, Margaret B. Green, Elgin, SC, Carolyn Wieteler Benford, Greensboro, NC and The Netherlands; Clara B. Rutland, Orangeburg, SC, two brothers, John E. Benford, Georgetown, SC and Henry A. Benford, Andrews, SC; three grandchildren, Christopher A. Stockman and his wife, Tammy , J. Matthew Stockman and Phillip A. Dobson, of Mount Pleasant and two great grandchildren, Christopher Dylan Stockman and Madison McKensie Stockman. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Benford Zack and a son, Phillip Benford, Jr., a brother, James A. Benford and a sister, Sybil B. Maxwell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice Services, 3 South Park Circle, Charleston, SC 29407, Shriner's Hospital For Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or Hollings Cancer Center, 86 Jonathan Lucas Street, Charleston, SC 29425.
