He was born Jan. 5, 1945 in Stokes County to the late Tom and Wanda Smith Martin. Mr. Martin worked for Bill Plemmons & Son and was of the Baptist faith. He was born Jan. 5, 1945 in Stokes County to the late Tom and Wanda Smith Martin. Mr. Martin worked for Bill Plemmons & Son and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include a longtime companion, Aravaley Overby, of Rural Hall; a daughter, Sharon Knox, of Rural Hall; a son and daughter-in-law, Todd Martin and wife, Jill, of Belews Creek; his grandchildren: Jake Martin and Ashley Knox; his sisters and a brother-in-law: Mildred Sechrist of Reidsville, Thelma and Marshall Stevens of Rural Hall and Mary Kiger of Rural Hall; and his brothers and sisters-in-law: Wayne and Alene Martin of Burlington, Aubrey and Mary Martin of Winston-Salem, Donald and Kornella Martin of Mount Airy and Tommy and Gail Martin of Westfield. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Ray Martin. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Howell Funeral Chapel of Pilot Mountain, conducted by Brother Joe Beck, with interment to follow at Brown Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 28, at Howell Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain. Flowers will be accepted or donations made to Brown Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Gail Durham, 1535 Pilot Westfield Road, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
