OBITUARY PHEBE ELIZA JACKSON SEARLES Phebe Eliza Jackson Searles was born in Bath, Summit county, Ohio, on the firth day of July 1845. When four years of age, she moved with her parents to Cleveland, Ohio, where she spent the happy days of childhood. In the year of 1860, she came to Winnebago, Illinois, where she grew into womanhood and was married to Wm. H. Searles, December 31, 1862. In 1875 the young family came to Fairmont, Nebraska and settled on a farm in Madison precinct, where they lived until the year 1901, when the family moved into the city of Fairmont, where the parents intended to spend their remaining days in quiet retirement. Six children, four sons, and two daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Searles. Little Albert and Alice, twins, died in their infancy at an age of three months. Those surviving are Lawrence, George E., Lee Claire, and Mabel Searles of Fairmont, these with the bereaved husband and three of Mrs. Searles' brothers: I.M. Jackson, John A. Jackson, and George W. Jackson, now sojourning in our midst, mourn their loss. Mrs. Searles was a good woman, beloved by all who knew her. She was a kind and faithful wife, a loving mother and a kind sister. She was an attendant at services at the Congregational church, and amember of the Ladies Aid society. The last years of Mrs. Searles' life were marked by great suffering, but she was a very patient sufferer, waiting for the last summons to come. All that medical science, and tender care of a kind husband and loving daughter could do, was done to preserve her life. Yet in the early morning, before the day began to dawn at twenty minutes after four o'clock, on the 18th of January, 1908, she passed peacefully away, reaching an age of sixty three years, six months and thirteen days. The funeral services were held at the Searles residence, and were conducted by Rev. A. Lemkau, who chose for his text Luke 8:52, "Weep not, she is not dead, but sleepth."
