She was born on April 4, 1924 on the family farm in Harlan County near Huntley, NE., the third of four children born to John Nicholas and Julia "Daisy" (Metzger) Artz. Read More	Phyllis Arlene Sall, of Holdrege, NE., passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Holdrege (NE.) Memorial Homes. She was born on April 4, 1924 on the family farm in Harlan County near Huntley, NE., the third of four children born to John Nicholas and Julia "Daisy" (Metzger) Artz. As a young girl, Phyllis and her family moved to their farmstead north of Alma, NE. She attended school in Huntley, graduating with the Huntley (NE.) High School class of 1942. As a young woman, Phyllis worked in the ASCS office in Alma. NE. and later she was employed at the Hastings (NE.) Ammunition Depot during World War II. On December 16, 1943 she was united in marriage to Gust A. Sall and to this union two children were born: Richard Neil and Karen Elaine. The couple made their home 1 mile south and ¾ mile west of Sacramento, NE. In March of 1946, they moved to a farm 7 miles south and 3 ½ miles west of Holdrege, NE. where they engaged in farming. Phyllis loved life on the farm and enjoyed working side-by-side with her husband, Gust. Phyllis also worked part-time at Holdrege (NE.) Floral for several years. In 1991, the couple moved to Holdrege, NE. to their current home. In July of 2003, she began to make her home at Holdrege Memorial Homes, where she resided until her passing. Phyllis loved following her precious grandchildren's activities and sporting events. She enjoyed square dancing, watching sports for recreation, and tending to her flower garden. Music had a special place in her heart and she spent many hours listening to music and playing her organ and piano. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, was a 4-H Leader, volunteered her time at Phelps Memorial Health Center, and enjoyed many friendship bonds through the years that were formed as a part of the Hub Bub Club. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by: son, Richard Neil "Rick" Sall in 2004 and brother, Lloyd Artz. Phyllis leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 66 years, Gust Sall of Holdregem NE.; daughter, Karen Bunnell and husband, George, Jr. of Oxford, NE.; grandchildren: Jason Sall of Syracuse, Nebraska, Eric Sall of Great Mills, MD., Gina Dunse and her husband, Travis of Alma, NE., and Sally Bunnell of New York City, N.Y.; great-grandsons: Gavin and Ian Dunse of Alma, NE.; brothers: Merle Artz of Orleans, NE. and Dean Artz of Kearney, NE,; sister-in-law, Mildred Sall of Holdrege, NE. and a host of relatives and friends.
