Major, near Dickens, Monday, was held in the Methodist Church yesterday afternoon at one o'clock, with Reverend R.H. Clifton in charge. Death was due to leakage of the heart, from which trouble she had been suffering for the past few months. Mrs. Smail is very well known in Elwood and vicinity having grown to young womanhood here and attended and graduated from the Elwood high school but a few years ago. Helen Major was born 25 January 1911 and departed this life 3 August 1931 at the age of 20 years, 6 months and 9 days. She began this life on a farm near Smithfield and there at an early age united with the Methodist church. Her schooling was received in a rural school in Gosper county and in Elwood and Cambridge high schools. At the age of 17 years she moved with her parents to Dickens where she remained for one year teaching school. From Dickens she went to Cortez, Colorado and was married to Omo Smail. To this union was born a son, James William. The life of devotion and tender care which she gave her family, tho short, was beautiful. Her departure leaves a void which cannot be filled. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and baby, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Major, her eight brothers and sisters and other relatives and friends. At the services songs were sung by a quartet composed of Mrs. O.E. Bozarth, Mrs. G.E. Winger, R.L. Bargg and E.H. Lanyard. Mr. Paine, an uncle of the deceased, sang a beautiful solo. Interment was made in the Elwood cemetery.
