Read More	From the Arapahoe Public Mirror 21 August 1952 Mrs. Percy Thomas Dies After Suffering Stroke Holbrook-Mrs. Percy Thomas, nee Ethel Major, 60, died early Friday morning after suffering a stroke of apoplexy at her home late Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Thomas had been in poor health for several years. Mrs. Thomas had been a resident of Holbrook for 8 years, moving with her family from the rural section north of Arapahoe to a farm 1 1/2 miles east of Holbrook in the spring of 1944. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Church in Holbrook. Burial was made in the Apapahoe cemetery. Survivors included her husband, 3 sons, Captain Howard Thomas of Camp Cook, California, Major W.I. Thomas of Santa Ana, California and Sergeant Merle Thomas of Camp Labrador and a daughter, Mrs. Ed Dunbar of La Grange, Wyoming and seven grandchildren. An obituary would be published the next week. Arapahoe Public Mirror 18 August 1952 Last Rites Held for Mrs. Percy Thomas Holbrook- Services were held Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Percy Thomas at the Methodist church with the Reverend William M. Parker conducting the rites at 2 o'clock. Music was furnished by Mrs. Mollring and Mrs. Nettie Mollring who sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Nearer My God To Thee". Festus Paine, an uncle from Dunbar sang, "Sometime We'll Understand". Mrs. Otto Christianson was the pianist. Pallbearers were Sam Hesser, Gilbert Chadwick and Ray Lanter of the Gosper Community, Harold Frack, Asa Johnson and Ora Long. Burial was made in the Arapahoe Cemetery. Relatives from a distance who attended the services were, Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Burke of Lincoln, Leslie Major of Riverton, Wyoming, Charlie Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Thulin and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Forney of Oxford, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Major of Elwood, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Coy of Smithfield Mr and Mrs. Cloyd Hoyt and family of McCook, Mr. and Mrs. Festus Paine of Dunbar, Captain Howard Thomas of Santa Barbara, California, Major Ivan Thomas of El Toro, California, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Dunbar and family of a Grange, Wyoming, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Bly of Beaver City, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Roberts of Holdredge and H.E. Paine of Edison. Ethel M. Thomas was born 15 March 1892 at Smithfield, Nebraska. She was the daughter of James A. and Effie Major. She passed away at Cambridge, Nebraska hospital 16 August 1952 at the age of 60 years, 5 months and 1 day. At an early age she was baptized and joined the Methodist church. As long as her health permitted she took an active part in all church activities. She attended rural school in Gosper county and high school in Smithfield. Later she graduated from the Franklin academy at Franklin, Nebraska. After teaching for several years she was united in marriage to Percy Thomas on 27 December 1916. To this union were born 5 children, 4 sons, Captain Howard M. of Santa Barbara, California, Major Ivan of El Toro, California, Lieutenant Leland who preceded her in death and A-2C Merle J. who was on board ship on his way overseas and one daughter, Mrs. Ed Dunbar of La Grange, Wyoming. She left to mourn her passing, her husband and four children, her mother, Mrs. Effie Major of Santa Barbara, California, 3 brothers, Leslie of Riverton, Wyoming, Walter of Richland, Washington, Major Ralph of Lincoln, Nebraska, stationed in Japan, 3 sisters, Mrs. D.L. Burke of Trinidad, Colorado, Mrs. E.S. Burke of Lincoln, Nebraska and Miss Ruth of Santa Barbara and many other relatives and friends. We heard she had a stroke last week. The Bulletin Mrs. Percy Thomas, the former Ethel Major, passed away Saturday morning in the Cambridge hospital. Services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Holbrook, Nebraska. The family are former residents of the Gosper neighborhood.
