Phyllis Jane Erdmann was born on December 18, 1927 to George and Elfrieda (Hoops) Erdmann, on a farm three miles southwest of Groton during a roaring blizzard, the doctor could not make it until the next day. Read More	Phyllis Jane Jark, 80, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on March 7, 2008 at Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls, where she was a resident for two and a half years. Phyllis Jane Erdmann was born on December 18, 1927 to George and Elfrieda (Hoops) Erdmann, on a farm three miles southwest of Groton during a roaring blizzard, the doctor could not make it until the next day. After a few years at this farm, they bought a farm northeast of Groton. Phyllis attended rural country school for eight years. She entered high school at Pierpont, SD, and transferred to Groton High School. Phyllis graduated in 1945. Phyllis attended Northern State Teachers College and earned a teaching certificate. Her first school was in Riverside Township, which was three miles from the family farm. She taught 3rd and 4th grade at Andover Public School. As a young teacher, Phyllis loved to travel with summer classes from Northern to such diverse areas as Cuba and Quebec. Phyllis then started teaching 4th grade at Groton Public School in the early 1950's and continued until 1962. She also taught at Stratford and Ferney, SD. She was a dedicated and caring teacher. On June, 3, 1962, Phyllis married Lloyd B. Jark at Zion Lutheran Church in Andover, SD. They made their home on the Jark farm outside of Stratford for 42 years. They moved to Sioux Falls in 2005. Phyllis was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stratford. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was a member of the Brown County Extension Club and was also a leader of the Rondell Robins 4-H Club. Butter horns, flaming desserts, and Christmas cookies were just a few of Phyllis's specialties that made dinner at the Jark home a special event. Phyllis had a flair for fashion, flowers, and home décor that delighted her friends and family. Her compassion and humor will always be remembered. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Lloyd, Sioux Falls, three daughters: Becky (Donald Hill) Erdmann, Reno, NV, Peggy (Lynn) Weismantel, Sioux Falls, and Heidi (Steve Kenat) Jark, Cincinnati, OH, one son, David (Kim) Jark, Rogue River, OR, five grandchildren, and her brother in-law, Duane Jark, Stratford. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Erdmann. The funeral service will be Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Groton, SD, with Rev. Wesley Hafner and Rev. Craig Grams officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Casket bearers will be Al Ryckman, Arlen (Buzz) McNeil, Val Jark, Bernie Jark, Larry Jark, and Dustin McNeil. Honorary casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Matthew Weismantel, Betsy (Steve) Van Genderen, Cavin Hill, Catarina Kenat, and Chris Witherspoon. Arrangements by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.
