Stutzman was the youngest child born to Frank and Vera (Roland) Watts on March 11, 1929 on a farm near Beaver Crossing, Nebraska, and died on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Ridgewood Care Center in Seward at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 28 days. As a young girl she attended country school and later graduated with the Class of 1946 from Beaver Crossing High School. On February 14, 1947 she was united in marriage to Wilbur Stutzman and to this union, three children, Laurel, Steve and Greg were born.Together they made their home on a farm near Milford, where she was a busy mother and homemaker. She worked for a time at Gold's Department Store in Lincoln and later for Verna's Café in Beaver Crossing. Phyllis was employed at the Milford Rest Home for over 35 years beginning in the housekeeping department and later earned her CNA and CMA certifications, allowing her to workmore closely with the residents at Sunrise Country Manor. After her retirement, Phyllis became more active in community activities and events, volunteering whenever assistance was needed. She had a great sense of humor and a very positive attitude and outlook toward life's trials and was always thoughtful and considerate of others needs. Phyllis was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, Kensington Club and the local Food Connection. In her spare time, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, spending time with friends and was always ready to go whenever and wherever there was something going on. Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Laurel Engel, Beaver Crossing, sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Nancy Stutzman, Laramie, WY, Greg Stutzman, Beaver Crossing, six grandchildren and spouses, Scott and Barb Engel, Lincoln, Shawn and Susan Engel, Mequon, WI, Kristen and Jason Patton, Groton, CT, Jennifer and Eric Patton, Castle Rock, CO, Samantha Stutzman, Laramie, WY, Rocki and Mike Roth, Milford, 12 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Bonnie Watts, Lincoln, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wilbur in 1999, an infant brother, brothers, Keith Porter, Vernon and Frank Watts, sisters, Wanda Jean Lamson, Bernadine Bye, Virgie "Babe" Johnson, and Jeanette Hickenlooper. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Beaver Crossing with Rev. Betsy Calloway-Carew officiating. Interment is in the Beaver Crossing Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 9/10/09 from 9am-9pm at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Beaver Crossing with the family greeting friends and relatives from 7-9 pm.
