Description	:	Pinkney DAVENPORT II is the sixth child of seven children born to Augustine "Austin " DAVENPORT Jr and his wife Jennifer "Jincy" BASS. Pinkney DAVENPORT II age eighteen married first to his neighbor Sarah Sophia ROUTH age twenty on 18 Sept 1829 in Randolph County, North Carolina. Sarah is the daughter of Aaron ROUTH and his wife Mary ROACH. Perhaps Pinkney and Sarah were married in the Sandy Creek Baptist Church where their parents attended. Pinkney DAVENPORT II age eighteen married first to his neighbor Sarah Sophia ROUTH age twenty on 18 Sept 1829 in Randolph County, North Carolina. Sarah is the daughter of Aaron ROUTH and his wife Mary ROACH. Perhaps Pinkney and Sarah were married in the Sandy Creek Baptist Church where their parents attended. According to the 1840 U S Census they had two sons. However only one has been identified as most likely Wiley E Davenport and his wife Nancy Langley. Then suddenly Sarah Sophia ROUTH died in about 1845, perhaps from complications of childbirth. The widower Pinkney DAVENPORT II, age thirty six married a second time on 20 Feb 1847 to widow Sophia Tilly KIVETT YORK, age forty five. She was the wife of Larkin C YORK,Sr. He died perhaps from a farming or hunting accident at age forty four. Regrettably he died when Sophia was pregnant with their tenth child that he never knew. Widow Sophia with her ten very young children needed help and financial resources to support and raise these children. Pinkney was the Democratic Chairman of Randolph County. He is listed in the U S Census as a licensed government distiller. Federal moonshine laws and Federal distillation laws were made by the federally administered Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau also known as TTB. The TTB provides licenses, collects registration fees and checks for the running of these distilling operations. This "moon shine" liqueur trade was a great resource of much needed money for his new family of ten step children. Most likely Pinkney DAVENPORT taught and used his stepchildren in the distilling trade to provide much needed income for a struggling family. Pinkney DAVENPORT II and Sophia KIVETT YORK did not have any children of their own marriage. The ten children of Sophia KIVETT and her first husband Larkin Culberson YORK, Sr. are: 1. Nancy Ann "Bud" York, b. 1842; d. 1929 10.Larkin Culberson "Charlie" YORK Jr., b. 1844; d. 1924 The descendants of this large YORK family conduct an annual York Reunion in October each year at Ramseur, Randolph County, North Carolina to honor their family.
