Description	:	Polly (Hughes) Parker Blanton, lovingly called Poppie by family and friends, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Peachtree Centre. She was the daughter of the late D.B. and Virginia Hughes of the Rehoboth Community. She was predeceased by her first husband, Wilkes T. Parker; her second husband, William S. Blanton; her daughter, Martha Parker Elmore; and her step-son, Don Blanton. Today is a celebration as Poppie is reunited with these family members, as well as her brothers and sisters. Read More	Polly (Hughes) Parker Blanton, lovingly called Poppie by family and friends, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Peachtree Centre. She was the daughter of the late D.B. and Virginia Hughes of the Rehoboth Community. She was predeceased by her first husband, Wilkes T. Parker; her second husband, William S. Blanton; her daughter, Martha Parker Elmore; and her step-son, Don Blanton. Today is a celebration as Poppie is reunited with these family members, as well as her brothers and sisters. She was raised with her ten siblings and being third from the youngest, she had many people to 'dote' on her. She learned to play the piano at an early age and hardly a day would go by that she would not play her signature songs. She also enjoyed writing her own pieces of music to share. She treasured the years that she and Wilkes spent together while he served in the Air Force. Her family and friends loved hearing the stories of her childhood and early married life. After Wilkes' death, she married Bill Blanton, a strong Christian man, and the joy of married life continued. She was born in Jonesville, SC. Upon her marriage to Wilkes they moved to Gaffney, where she joined the First Baptist Church and was the oldest member at the time of her death. She was the best homemaker and we were truly blessed to have her as our Mom. She had beautiful Southern manners, a quick wit and loved to laugh. The memories we will be able to share will definitely provide us with a lot of laughter for the years to come. Poppie is survived by her daughters, Virginia (Gigi) Hamrick (Carlisle) of Gaffney, Mary Ella Clark (Wayne) of Charlotte; a step-daughter, Beverly Blanton of Anderson; son-in-law, Don Elmore; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Blanton; five grandchildren, Don (Ginny) Elmore, Peyton Elmore, Ansley Cheatham (Reid), Carlisle Hamrick Jr. and Martin Hamrick; step-grandchildren, Dennis (Ingrid) Blanton of Atlanta, David Blanton of LaGrange, GA, Donna Madden (Charles) of Atlanta; six great-grandchildren; and six great-step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, who greatly enriched her life. The family received friends 10:00 until 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at First Baptist Church. Services immediately followed at 11:00 AM at the church with Dr. M.B. Morrow Jr. and Rev. Tommy Huddleston officiating. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Rehoboth Baptist Church, 110 Rehoboth Road, Gaffney, SC, 29340 or Hospice Care of SC, 1612 N. Limestone Street, Gaffney, SC, 29340.
