Read More	OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN) VETERAN RAIL WORKER IS KILLED. PORTER LANGSTON DIES IN YARDS IN ANDERSON. Porter C. Langston, 50, was killed instantly at 11:15 o'clock Tuesday morning when he stepped into a train in the Anderson yards of the Big Four railroad while at work. The freight on which Langston was conductor was switching in the yards and he was uncoupling cars. It is believed that when he finished with a car he stepped back and entirely failed to either see or hear a train coming on the track behind him. The yard detective at Anderson was of the opinion that he was struck by the back of the oncoming engine. He was pulled under the wheels of the car where the body was badly mangled. Porter Langston had been a prominent member of the First Methodist church for years. At the time of his death, he was serving as superintendent of the Sunday school and had held that position for six or seven years. He was a member of the board of trustees and the board of stewards before becoming superintendent. The body was taken to the Nichols Funeral home in Anderson and will be returned to the Jones Funeral home Tuesday evening. Funeral arrangements had not yet been completed. Porter Langston was born on October 1890. He leaves a wife surviving him at his residence on West Hill Street and also a daughter, Mrs. Durward Koons, Geneva; and two grandchildren, Norman and Nolan. FUNERAL - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN) - August 14, 1941 Funeral services for the late Porter Charles Langston, 54, who met a tragic death as the result of being hit by a switch engine in the Anderson years of the Big Four, will be held at 10:30 o'clock (DST) Thursday morning in the First Methodist church. Officiating at the services will be Rev. R.C. Plank, Warsaw, former pastor here, and Dr. O.T. Martin, the present church pastor. #Burial will be made in Falls cemetery with the Masonic lodge in charge of graveside rites. Mr. Langston was born in Wabash county Oct. 10, 1886, the son of Christopher Columbus Langston and Mary Ann (Bishop) Langston. His father was a native of the county while his mother was born in Ohio. The decedent was an employee of many years standing on the Big Four railway. He was probably best known, however, for his devotion to his religion, inasmuch as he had served as Sunday school superintendent of the First Methodist church during the last few years. His kindly nature endeared him to a host of friends. Mr. Langston married Mary E. Petry in Wabash on June 8, 1908, and the widow survives as well as one daughter, Mrs. J.D. Koons of Geneva, Ind., and two grandchildren, Norman and Nolan Koons. A brother, Homer, preceded him in death several years ago. The body was removed from the Jones Funeral home to the residence, 276 east Hill street, Tuesday evening.
