Parents: Ezra Horatio Graves, Phebe Brockway Spouse: Sarah Ann Harvey, m. 1844, OH Aaron and Sarah were married in Ohio and was identified with farming interests in the state of Ohio until the fall of 1854. They went to Indiana and after a year drove from Iowa,crossing the Mississippi River at Burlington whence they went on to Hillsboro where they established their home. They went to Indiana and after a year drove from Iowa,crossing the Mississippi River at Burlington whence they went on to Hillsboro where they established their home. Note: Robert was born in Indiana in 1853. In 1858 Mr. Graves accompanied by John Huffstetter,David Cox and Robert Elarton drove a yoke of steers through to Pikes Peak where they prospected. But after about three weeks Aaron Graves became homesick and returned home to Iowa with his companions. The journey was made in a similar manner to the outgoing trip. Aaron Graves afterward gave his attention to general agricultural pursuits until June 1861. When in response to his country's call for aid he enlisted as a member of Company C,25th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. This service was until June 1965. Returning to Hillsboro where he began farming on a tract of land 2 miles North of the village. He purchased the 80 acres and resided there until March 1870 when he died. The community mourning the loss of one of its respected and valued citizens.
