Swecker, of Crabbottom, Virginia, whose death in Jefferson Hospital March 10, has occasioned wide spread grief and sorrow in the county where he had a wide circle of relatives and friends; were held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 13th at the Crabbottom Presbyterian Church and was attended by a large number of friends from this county, Augusta County and the state of Pennsylvania. These services were conducted by the family pastor. Rev. A. E. Johnson, assisted by Rev. L. P. Foley and Rev. E. W. Dolan from the Monterey and Crabbottom Methodist churches respectively. A previous service was held Sunday afternoon, March 12, at Shady Side, Ohio, the home of the deceased. Interment was in the Wimer Cemetery, Crabbottom, where his father, E. D. Swecker and two brothers, Cyrus and Pearlie were previously buried. The pallbearers were active: Max Hull, Paul Keckley, J. J. Swecker Ralph Swecker, P. L. Mauz y and W. R. Mauzy. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Highland Lodge A. P. and A. M., of which organization Mr. Swecker was for many years a member The services at the grave were in charge of the Lodge. Mr. Swecker was born at Crabbottom, Virginia, October 24, 1893. After his graduation from Highland. County Public Schools, he attended William and Mary College and Washington and Lee University. While at Washington and Lee his education was interrupted by World War I. Soon after the declaration of war in 1917 he volunteered with the W. & L. Ambulance Unit with which he served eighteen months over seas. While in service, he served his country faithfully and bravely. No doubt he saw as much hard service as any soldier from Highland County. He was in the famed battle of the Argonne-Forest where he was wounded and caused to spend much time in an overseas hospital. He received honorable mention for bravery and distinguished service in battle from General Pershing. After his return to the States, he entered Carnegie Tech, Pittsburgh, from which institution he graduated in 1922, receiving his degree in Mining Engineering. From 1922 until his death he was located in the coal fields of Pennsylvania, where he held important and responsible positions. At the time of his death he was employed as Safety Director of the Powhatan Coal Company. Mr. Swecker's first wife, Isabelle Crayne, died April 3, 1928, at Jefferson, Pennsylvania. By this union one son, Robert David Swecker survives. He is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Hazel Stewart Swecker, and one son by this union, Arlie Dale Swecker. Besides his mother, Mrs. Almeda Swecker, the following brothers and sisters survive: Dr. Berlie T. and Tressel Swecker, Crabbottom Virginia; Mrs. Leah Keckley, Cheswick, Pa.; Mrs. Harley Fisher and Mrs. Dan Kiser, Crabbottom, Va.; and Mrs. Juanita Pennybacker, Honolulu
