Description	:	Donald Wayne Doile was born to Cyril James Doile & Emma Clara Rice. On 30 Nov 1938 he married Miss Clara Mae Vickery, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. A.R. Vickery of Emporia. On 17 Sept 1943 the announcment of their son, Kenneth Eugene Doile was in the Emporia Gazette. On 8 March 1945 his wife and parents were notified that he had been killed, 20 February 1945 in the Battle of the Buldge, Luxemborg, Germany. 80,937 men were killed at the Battle of the Buldge. The family requested his return and later that year, his body was sent on the Santa Fe Railroad and delivered to the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, now Maplewood where there are other members of the Doile family buried. Donald had enlisted on 9 Jan 1944 as Private Donald W. Doile A personal note: His father was a conductor on the Santa Fe RR out of Emporia. My father was a cousin and he worked on the Santa Fe out of Winslow, AZ to Albuquerque. When the military started sending the boys killed at the Battle of the Buldge home, my father was told that Cyril worked the special train that the boys were brought home on. He did not know his son was one of them until they started taking the bodies off the train. Each name was called out on the platform for families to hear. The Doile cousin that worked the train towards the west coast told my father what had happened. Most of the men in the Doile famly worked for the railroad. For you younger ones, the government gave families the choice to either leave them buried where they were or ship them home for burial. They came home by the thousands over months and months. Each and every one had a military guard that traveled with them, and every one was taken by the morturary, either in a wagon or car, with a flag draped on the coffin. It was a sad thing to see and people would stop and honor in silence, each and every one of them each time. Thats what we were like 65 years ago. So first he was buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery (National Cemetery) and later when his body was brought home in Maplewood Memorial Cemetery were there are family member buried.
