He was born on the Devericks farm half a mile south of Headwaters, where he lived all of his life, except what time he served in the Civil War. Devericks departed this life, March 4th, 1915, aged 77 years, 8 months. He was born on the Devericks farm half a mile south of Headwaters, where he lived all of his life, except what time he served in the Civil War. He was a fearless and gallant soldier, serving in the 31st Virginia Regiment. He was a loyal citizen, a kind and loving neighbor, also a faithful member of the Headwaters Presbyterian church for about 35 years. He leaves to mourn his loss, one son, and three daughters, 23 grand children and 3 great grand children. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. N. A. Parker of Monterey, and the remains were interred in the cemetery on the hill, at the Headwaters church. Pall bearers were four of his grand sons and two nephews, Virgil and Dean Hook, of Staunton. Jesse Hupman and Elliott Devericks, of Headwaters, A. L. Leach, of Doe Hill and Newton Vanfossen of West Augusta. Leach, died April 23, 1910, rather suddenly after a long illness from a complication of disease. She was the daughter of the late JOHN and MARAGRET DEVERICKS, and last living sister of T.M. Deverick, Esq., born July 5, 1840, near Headwaters on Shaw's Fork, and died at her home on West Thorn, in Pendleton county, West Va.
