Description	:	Rachael Marie Charlotte Bard, passed on May 12, 2009 at her home in Holdrege. Rachael was born August 21, 1915 on the family farm in Phelps County, north of Bertrand, Nebraska, the sixth of ten children born to Herman and Ellen (Bjorklund) Holen. Rachael was baptized and confirmed from the Westmark Evangelical Free Church, north of Loomis, Nebraska. She received her primary education from Phelps County School District #37 and then graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1933. Read More	Rachael Marie Charlotte Bard, passed on May 12, 2009 at her home in Holdrege. Rachael was born August 21, 1915 on the family farm in Phelps County, north of Bertrand, Nebraska, the sixth of ten children born to Herman and Ellen (Bjorklund) Holen. Rachael was baptized and confirmed from the Westmark Evangelical Free Church, north of Loomis, Nebraska. She received her primary education from Phelps County School District #37 and then graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1933. She then attended The University of Nebraska at Kearney, where she received her teaching credentials in 1933. Rachael taught for six years in three rural Phelps County schools. She was united in marriage on August 11, 1940 to Franklin Carl Andrew Bard and to this union two daughters were born: Eloise and Margaret. Following Frank's discharge of the service, the family moved to Wichita, Kansas, where they resided for 25 years. In 1967 they moved to Holdrege, where she went to work for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company as a secretary until her retirement in 1979. In 1985, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank. Rachael was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed volunteering at Methodist Memorial Homes and the Phelps Memorial Hospital, was active with the Red Cross Bloodmobile and loved tending to her flower garden. Rachael is survived by: daughter, Margy Hilsabeck of Holdrege; grandchildren: Chris Franks and his wife, Becky of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Jamie Franks and her fiancé, Andy Loweree of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Angela Rodgers and her husband, Keith of Phoenix, Arizona, and Peter Hilsabeck and his fiancé, Lauren DeBoard of Lincoln, Nebraska; great-grandchildren: Garrett, Dean and Paul Franks, Kaleb and Kaia Rodgers, Leyla Hilsabeck, and Lila Rachael Loweree; sister-in-law, Betty Holen of Bertrand; and a host of relatives and friends.
