Lucile was born 26 Apr 1916, to Dillon and Lillie (Fink) Kimble of Downs. Lucile graduated from Downs High School in 1934. On 20 Mar 1940, she married Dan Vander Giesen of Downs. They were the first couple to be married in the Downs United Methodist Church. Lucile was a resident of Downs all of her life. An avid quilter and seamtress, she enjoyed both hobbies in her retirement and spent many winter "snowbirds" in Rockport, Texas. Lucile was an active member to the Downs Senior Center, contrubuting her time to making many quilts. In her younger years she was actively involved in the Woman Society of the Downs United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Dan Vander Giesen; sister, Bernice Megli of Glen Elder; daughters Doris Vander Giesen, teacher in Hutcinson, Bonnie Thompson of Chicago, Ill., and Marsha Voss, a teacher and husband Bob of Atlanta, Ga; and grandchildren, Jana and Sara Thompson and Kellie and Derrick Voss. Preceding her death are her sisters Vada Kimble, Ethel Headley and Letha Getty; and brother, Olin Kimble. Funeral services were held Monday, 29 Dec 2003, at 10:00 am at the Downs United Methodist Church with Pastor Sherry Clemons officiating. Burial was in the Downs Cemetery. Note: Lucile & Dan retired to Downs from their substantial farm NE of Downs.
