RACHEL ANN UMPHRESS Mrs. Rachel Ann Umpires, a resident of Montgomery County for more than forty years, died Saturday evening at 8:30 o’clock at her home in Villisca at the age of 81 years. She was born in Jackson County, Indiana, August 6, 1839 and came to Muscatine County, Iowa in 1845 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. (Mary Stephenson) Bartholomew Burrell. She was married to James Umphress in 1861 and came to Montgomery County in 1875, moving to Villisca with her family thirty years ago. She was the mother of five children, one dying in childhood. RACHEL ANN UMPHRESS Mrs. Rachel Ann Umpires, a resident of Montgomery County for more than forty years, died Saturday evening at 8:30 o’clock at her home in Villisca at the age of 81 years. She was born in Jackson County, Indiana, August 6, 1839 and came to Muscatine County, Iowa in 1845 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. (Mary Stephenson) Bartholomew Burrell. She was married to James Umphress in 1861 and came to Montgomery County in 1875, moving to Villisca with her family thirty years ago. She was the mother of five children, one dying in childhood. Those living are Bert of Coleville, Canada, John, Frank, and Mrs. P. L. Yarringont of Villisca. Her husband died in Villisca on October 10, 1920. Besides her children, she leaves also one brother, Nathaniel Burrell, living north of Villisca, fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. For the last there years Mrs. Umphress has been an invalid and has been cared for at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Yarrington. The funeral was held at the home at 2:30 o’clock, Monday afternoon with Rev. E. S. Menocher in charge of the services. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery.
