Description	:	Raleigh Day Fletcher, 90, of Lexington, South Carolina, met his Lord and Savior on January 7, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on August 9, 1927 in Piedmont, South Carolina to Richard DeKalb "Cab" and Lillie Jane Howard Fletcher. Raleigh graduated from Piedmont High School. On November 21, 1945 he was drafted into the US Army. He served three tours in Germany as well as serving at several other military posts. Read More	Raleigh Day Fletcher, 90, of Lexington, South Carolina, met his Lord and Savior on January 7, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on August 9, 1927 in Piedmont, South Carolina to Richard DeKalb "Cab" and Lillie Jane Howard Fletcher. Raleigh graduated from Piedmont High School. On November 21, 1945 he was drafted into the US Army. He served three tours in Germany as well as serving at several other military posts. It was during his second tour in Germany that he met and married his German sweetheart, Helga Willwohl. His daughters, Patricia and Cecilia, were born during his time in Germany. He was an automotive electrician and later taught fuel and electrical systems at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland where he retired in 1968. While in the service he received the following ribbons and medals: WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Germany, Army of Occupation Japan, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal 5th. After retiring from the Army, he went to work for Shakespeare as a high voltage electrician, retiring in 1989. Raleigh became a member of Grace Baptist Church in West Columbia in 1984. He was an usher for many years, served in the printing ministry, helped in Sunday School, went on multiple mission trips and served on the Building Committee. After retiring from Shakespeare, he spent much of his time with his family. In 1981, he became a grandfather ("Papa") and dedicated much of his next 25 years to his daughters and grandchildren. In 2012, he became a great-grandfather ("Boo-Boo"), spending the last five years loving on and playing with Gracie and Brooke. In December of 2015, he was blessed to have Corrine come as his beloved caregiver and "buddy". Raleigh is survived by daughters, Patricia Thames (Glenn) and Cecilia "Sissy" Hair (Terry); sisters, Bet Reeves and Jessie Owens Jacks; grandchildren, Glenda Thames Smith (Ian), Justin Michael Thames and Rachel Elizabeth Hair; great-grandchildren, Audrey Grace "Gracie" and Sydney "Brooke" Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helga Willwohl Fletcher and his brother, Elwood "Woody" Fletcher.
