Description	:	Ralph A. Melin, 77, Kenmare, ND, passed away May 22, 2016 at Kenmare Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Ralph Arthur Melin was born December 28, 1938, the son of Amos and Ada (Anderson) Melin in Kenmare. Ralph Arthur Melin was born December 28, 1938, the son of Amos and Ada (Anderson) Melin in Kenmare. Ralph attended school in Norma, ND and graduated from high school at St. Agnes of Kenmare in 1956; which is where he met Janice Seime. Ralph and Janice were married on February 8, 1959 in Kenmare. Ralph worked in the oil field from 1956 – 1963 both in Wyoming and North Dakota. Ralph and Janice then began farming in 1963 near Norma. Ralph and Janice retired from farming in 2007 and moved off of the farm and into Kenmare in 2008. Ralph enjoyed many things in life. He loved country music, hunting, fishing and playing cards; especially pinochle. Gardening became a passion for him in retirement. He also loved restoring old vehicles, but was most proud of his two late model Ford tractors. Ralph’s generosity and kindness touched so many people’s lives. He was always willing to extend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors. He was especially proud of and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Most recently, his great-granddaughter, Blakely, brought many smiles and happy moments. Their daily Facetime chats brought great joy to him, and even taught Grandpa how to use an iPad. He was dearly loved and will be missed. Ralph’s loving family includes: Wife of 57 years, Janice; children, Rick (Claressa) Melin, Jackson, MI, Lori (Bob) Swoope, Centennial, CO; Steve Melin, Kenmare, ND, and Leanne (Scott) Heidel, Kenmare, ND; grandchildren, Josh Swoope, Centennial, CO, Whittney (Shawn) Bates, Arvada, CO, Ryan Swoope, Dallas, TX, Shane (Keely) Heidel, Kenmare, ND, Chelsea Melin, Jackson, MI, Austin Heidel, Kenmare, ND, Melissa Melin, Great Falls AFB, MT; great-granddaughter, Blakely Bates, Arvada, CO; brothers, John (Marlene) Melin, Kenmare, ND and Carl (Linda) Melin, Kenmare, ND; sisters, Mae Hansen, Green River, WY, Shirley (Joe) Brunner, Kenmare, ND and Lois Wallace, Kenmare, ND; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
