Description	:	Ralph Edwin Griffin was the fourth of seven children of Ellendale pioneers, Alonzo and Susan (Cox) Griffin. He was born in the Cochituate area of Boston, MA in 1874, where the family was involved in the leather and shoe business. He came with his parents to rural Ellendale when he was eight years old. The Griffin farm was six miles west of Ellendale on what would become Hwy 11. He was born in the Cochituate area of Boston, MA in 1874, where the family was involved in the leather and shoe business. He came with his parents to rural Ellendale when he was eight years old. The Griffin farm was six miles west of Ellendale on what would become Hwy 11. His siblings were: John Chipman Griffin, Rebecca Griffin Snyder, Orrin Harris Griffin, Gertrude Griffin Lynde, Grace Griffin Wright, & Myron Wallace Griffin. Ralph married Z. May Wheelihan, daughter of John & Maria (Barr) Wheelihan in 1898. They and raised their family, Irene Griffin Burnett, Noble Griffin, Etta Griffin Brauer & Alonzo (Lonnie) Griffin on the Griffin farm. Ralph was active in community affairs and served as a Dickey County Commissioner first from 1905-1911, during which time the Dickey County Courthouse was built. He was reappointed as Commissioner in 1945 and served until 1953. The Griffins had built a new house on 3rd Street North in 1927 in Ellendale, and they retired there. Ralph was a member of the Masonic Order and was a 32nd degree Mason for more than 50 years. He joined the Shrine in 1920 and was also a member of the Workmen's Lodge. Ralph and May were loving grandparents to: Warren E. Burnett, Gail Griffin Bauer, Ruth Brauer McNabb, Edwin R. Brauer, and Jack Griffin.
