The obituary is sent to us by Ralph's parents, both of whom were born and reared in Saline County. ****************** Ralph Emery Blauvelt was born on a farm west of Edison, Nebraska on April 17, 1913 and lost his life in the flood near Oxford, Nebraska on June 1, 1935 at the early age of 22 years, 1 month, and 14 days. Ralph attended the public school in Edison. He left school at the tenth grade to accept a position with the Phelps County Creamery and Produce Company in Holdrege. After leaving this company, he worked at such employment as he could find. About two years ago he entered the employ of his brother-in-law, Herman Fuchs, and this fact brought him directly into the path of the recent flood. His home was in Edison at the time of his tragic death. Ralph did not think of himself but gave others the first place in his thoughts and consideration. He was an ambitious young man, anxious to succeed in life. Just as many a tender sampling was destroyed by the flood waters, so his young life was cut off out of the land of the living. He leaves to mourn his premature death, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Blauvelt of Edison; two sisters, Mrs. James Powell Jr of Overton; and Miss Rosella Blauvelt of Edison. There remain also four brothers, Sylvester, Francis, and Jay of Edison, and Arthur of Oxford. He leaves also an aged grandfather, Mr. Marsh Chase of Edison, and many sorrowing relatives and friends. One sister, Mary Jane Fuchs and one niece, Virginia Blauvelt, also perished in the same flood. Source: The Crete News, July 4, 1935 ************************************************
