He was born at Omaha, Nebraska, on September 24, 1941. At the age of five, Ralph moved with his parents to a farm one mile north and three miles west of Nelson. He attended Grand Prairie School and later transfered to Nelson when the country school was closed. May 30, 1958, he was united in marriage to Lana Kaye Dillon at Mankato, Kansas. Four children were born to this union, Mrs. Michael (Michelle) Pierce, Scott, Michael and Lisa, all of Rock Port. Ralph was an electrician by trade, receiving his schooling at Milford. He received his journeyman's license at a young age. He had resided in Rock Port for twelve years, working out of the union hall at Lincoln. He had been sent to many different states, working mostly at nuclear and energy plants and at the missle (sic) base in Wyoming. Graveside services were held at Nelson Sunday, July 18, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Paul Samuelson conducting the service. Minter Funeral Home of Rock Port was in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Lana; two daughters, Michelle and Lisa; two sons, Scott and Michael; four grandchildren, Michael Phelps, Andra and Jamie Pierce and Randi Nielsen, all of Rock Port; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Nielsen of Nelson; one sister, Mrs. Jerry (Betty) Elsasser of Columbus; two brothers, Howard of Nelson and Lynn of Glenvil; his grandmother, Mrs. Lillian Maakestad of Grants Pass, Oregon, and many other relatives. Out of town relatives and friends attending the graveside service Sunday, July 18, for Ralph Nielsen included Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Hatcliffe, Mrs. Dean Proknou, Mrs. Marilyn Adamson, Charles Dean, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin (Butch) Nielsen and Mr. and Mrs. John Grady of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Dillon of Lawrence, Kansas, Raymond Nielsen of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Nielsen of Harvard, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Nielsen of Ashland, Mr. and Mrs. Denny Nielsen of Garland, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Reeve of Aurora, Mr. and Mrs. Orin Dillon and family of Edgar, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kelly of Savannah, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sanner and family of Giltner, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Murdock of Clay Center and Mrs. Dorothy Dillon of Hastings.
