Read More	OBITUARY: 27 July 1944 - Vermillion Plain Talk, Vermillion, South Dakota RALPH SWISHER, 62, DIES HERE MONDAY Services at Methodist Church This Afternoon for Well-Known County Commissioner Ralph Swisher, 62, well-known Vermillion farmer, who served as Clay county commissioner for the past six years, died unexpectedly Monday morning at the Dakota hospital. Mr. Swisher was reading a newspaper at his home Saturday afternoon when he was suddenly seized with a heart attack. He was confined to his bed until he could be moved to the hospital the following day. Failing to rally, he passed away early Monday morning. Funeral services will he held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Methodist church. Rev. J. V. Leach will conduct the service and interment will be at Bluff View cemetery. The Elmore-Wagner Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Courthouse officials have announced that in tribute to Mr. Swisher the courthouse will be closed at noon today and will not be opened until Friday morning. Active pallbearers will include Everett Maxwell, Frank Powell, Lee Stevenson, Clare Allison, Bert Peterson and W. L. Jenks. Honorary pallbearers will be H. L. Blair, Claude Huetson, Niver Lown, Ben Huetson, Phil Odeen and Guy Brooks. Mr. Swisher was born on a farm near Emerson, Ia., November 28, 1881. He came to Clay county with his parents while a youth of 19. He was married to Edna Chaussee February 22, 1905, and they made their home on a farm here for several years until they took up homesteading in the western part of the state. In a year or two they returned to Vermillion where he resided until his death. Shortly after returning he entered the meat market business with Pat Williams, and later became sole manager of the business which he operated in Vermillion for almost 30 years, selling it to Clare Allison a few years ago. Mr. Swisher was a member of the Methodist church and the I.O.O.F. lodge. He was also an exempt fireman. In addition to his widow he is survived by two sons, Major Clark Swisher of Camp Campbell, Ky., and Lt. Jay Swisher of Camp Polk, La., both of whom arrived home this week; his mother, Mrs. J. N. Swisher, of Council Bluffs, Ia.; two brothers, Fay and Ernest of Vermillion, and a sister, Mrs. R. E. Carson of Elliott, Ia.
