Description	:	Ray Dennis Vaughn was born September 10, 1937 northwest of Naper, Nebraska in Gregory County at the home of Lyle and Cecil Vaughn. He went home to meet his savior August 11, 2014 at the age of 76. Ray married DeAnne Boyd on July 25, 1959 in White River, South Dakota. Read More	Ray Dennis Vaughn was born September 10, 1937 northwest of Naper, Nebraska in Gregory County at the home of Lyle and Cecil Vaughn. He went home to meet his savior August 11, 2014 at the age of 76. Ray married DeAnne Boyd on July 25, 1959 in White River, South Dakota. To this union four daughters were born: Fonda, Carla, LaRae, and Sheila. Ray and DeAnne established their home on a farm north of Naper, for forty-two years. Ray was a member of the First Congregational Church, Masons, Lion’s Club, and the Teacher’s Association. Ray attended grade school at St. Charles, South Dakota and graduated high school from Bonesteel, SD in 1957. While at Bonesteel he played four years of football enjoying the positions of half-back and defensive end. He also played basketball and ran track. He continued his journey at Springfield Southern Teachers College where he received his four year teaching certificate. While he was at Springfield he continued to run track and play football. While teaching he continued his education at Chadron Teacher’s College. Upon graduating from college, he began teaching at Naper. At the start of his career, Naper school had very few trophies. During his ten years of teaching and coaching at Naper he had his shop class build two trophy cases, which were filled with his students’ accomplishments. He then began teaching and coaching at Butte for seven years. While at Butte he enjoyed teaching various subjects and also coaching many outstanding athletes. After finishing at Butte he retired for five years, however, you can take the coach out of the school but can’t take the coach out of the man. When asked by Bonesteel-Fairfax high school to coach and teach, he decided to come out of retirement, and taught for sixteen years where he completed his career. He enjoyed teaching various subjects including shop, history, and math. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching and coaching and loved all his students and faculty members. Ray retired to his farm in 2000, which he loved. Although retired from teaching, Ray still enjoyed farm life and coaching his grandkids. Ray was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Cecil Vaughn, his mother and father in-law, Merlon and Irene Boyd, brother Lyle Vaughn Jr., sisters: Karon Steele, Inez Tech, and infant sister, Mildred. In laws: Don Moody, Helmer Jensen, Lorretta Vaughn, Darrell Tech, Dwayne Boyd, Dea Graesser, and son-in-law Keith Knutson. Ray had a giving heart and helped those who were in need, always putting others first. Ray and DeAnne did the two-step for 55 years, with Ray leading the way and his soul mate following his lead. Ray will be missed by many family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Community Hall in Naper, Nebraska. Burial will be in the Knollcrest Cemetery in Naper. There will be a prayer service on Sunday at 7:00 PM at the Hall.
