Stokes, who passed away at his home at Creighton Thursday, Feb. 21, at the age of 72, were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Creighton with the Rev. Mrs. Ethel O. McAninch and the Rev. Gordon Jensen officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harry Tyler, Raymond Johnson, Gifford McManigal, Ted Bazyn, Victor Eble and Henry Vogt. Ray Elvin Stokes, son of Laken B. and Mary Alice Stokes, was born in Harrison County, Ia. on Nov. 11, 1884. In 1900 he came to the Creighton vicinity, where he made his home with an uncle, J.R. Jones. In 1914 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Alton. They moved to a farm 12 miles southwest of Creighton, where they resided until 1923, when they moved to their farm south of Creighton. Two years ago they moved to their present home in Creighton. He was baptized into the Methodist Church at Millerboro and later transferred his membership to the Creighton Methodist Church. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Stokes, one son, Gordon Alton, passing away in infancy. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Leland R. and Willard of Creighton and Dale of Newport, Ky,; four daughters, Mrs. D.G. (Marjorie) Way of Ogden, Utah., Mrs. C.J. (Ruth) Klippel of Napa, Calif., Mrs. Vern (Laurine) Bartling of Creighton and Mrs. Donald (Lois) Johnson of Armour, S.D.; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Roy Moses of Neligh and a brother, Burley T.
