Lead Daily Call newspaper, June 14, 1919 - "Ray Burnside Killed. Former Lead Resident Meets Death in Anaconda, Montana, Mine. Mrs. J.W. Burnside, of Lead, received the shocking news last evening that her son, Ray, had been killed while employed in a mine at Anaconda, Montana. No particulars of the accident have been received, the message stating tht he had been crushed. "Deceased was born at Belgrade, Nebraska, 26 years ago, and came with his parents to Lead when seven years of age, residing here until about 6 months ago when he removed to Anaconda to work in the mines there. He had been employed by the Homestake Mining Company here previous to his removal from the city. He was married to Antoinette Lavota in Lead three years ago, who with one child survive him, besides his mother of Lead, and four sisters. "The remains will be brought to Lead for burial. Miss Antoinette Lakota and Raymond Burnside were married last evening at the parsonage of St. Ambrose's church, Rev. R.F. Dube officiating. The parties were attended by Miss Addie Wells and Arthur Carlson, also both of Lead. It was the intention of the young people to proceed to Alzada to spend a month on the ranch operated by Mr. Burnside's uncle, but the heavy storm in that locality deferred the arrangement until tomorrow. In the meantime Mr. and Mrs. Burnside are receiving the congratulations of numbers of friends, whom they had mischievously intended to surprise. Tomorrow, accompanied by the groom's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. F.J. Berry of Deadwood, they will motor to the country and later leave for Oregon where they may make their home, if the country is more to their liking than Lead, and both are a bit doubtful. Mr. Burnside, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Burnside, are residents of this city, is a young man who has been employed with the Homestake company for the past several years, and whose fine record is a well established fact in the community. Miss Lakota, who is one of the charming young ladies of the younger set possesses a wealth of attractiveness, and many are her friends in this city, where she attended school and has made her home since childhood. With Mr. and Mrs. Burnside will go the good wishes of all who know them, and the hope that they may return to Lead to make their home here.
