MYERS, mayor of Rochester from 1960-64, died at 6 a.m. today at his home, 118 West 10th street. Death, which was unexpected, came after a year's illness. He was 78 years of age. Mr. Myers, a Republican, capped a long career of civic service with his election as the city's 12th mayor. He had been a member of the City Council in 1935-38 and was nine years a trustee of the City Water Works, during which time the present water works building was erected. A Rochester resident for 70 years, Mr. Myers was engaged in the insurance business for almost 40 years. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist church, past president and 23- year member of the Lions club and past president and active participant in the activities of the Rochester Normal College Alumni association. Born Feb. 4, 1891, near Macy, Mr. Myers was the son of Jacob and Mary CYPHERD MYERS. His marriage was in this city Nov. 5, 1915 to Arline LOWMAN, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Otto (Joan) BLACKETOR, Allen Park, Mich.; one son, John W. "Bill" MYERS, R.R. 2, Rochester; four grandchildren, Mrs. Linda RENO, Indianapolis, and Brett, Raynee and Jon MYERS, all of Rochester, and one sister, Mrs. Raymond McVAY, R.R. 3, Rochester. Two sons and three sisters preceded in death. Last rites will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. Clyde WALTERS officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday. Memorials other than flowers may be made to the Eye Bank of the Rochester Lions club or to cancer control funds.
