Stranske and Bessie (Howard) Stranske on June 25, 1925 at Shattuck, Okla., and passed away Aug. 22, 1998, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln at the age of 73 years, 1 month, and 28 days. He was one of four children in the family. Ray was a member of the United States Army with the 742nd Amphibian Tank Battalion. He served in World War II from February 1943 until February of 1946. Ray received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal. In 1973, Ray became the owner and operator of the Westside Cafe and operated the cafe until 1979. In 1980, he moved to Hastings and became the manager of Eagles Club until 1983. Ray was married to Dorothy Kennel of Cordova, on June 22, 1946 and to them three children were born. Dorothy passed away on Feb. 23, 1985 Ray then married Merna Belle (Hager) Combs on March 31, 1988. He was a member of Geneva American Legion Sloan-Bolton Post No. 68, and the Hastings Eagles Lodge No. 592. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, camping and working in his garden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil J. and Bessie May Stranske, his wife Dorothy Stranske; a son Jimmy Stranske; and by grandson, Adam Stranske. He is survived by his wife, Merna Belle; son Gary and wife Paulette; daughter, Denise and husband John Janssen; step-sons, Jeff Combs and wife Patti; John Combs and wife Christy; step-daughters, Rhonda Bulwan and husband Roy; Brenda Deffenbaugh and husband, Jim; sisters Gertrude Borden and husband, Roy; Ruth May Stranske; Dorothy Wilson; 16 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from Farmer & Son Funeral Home, Geneva, on Tuesday, Aug. 25, with Pastor Robert Larson officiating. Guitarists and duet by Byron and Kevin Lawrence who sang "Whispering Hope" and"One Day at a Time." Casket Bearers were his grandsons; Patrick Stranske, Allen Stranske, Travis Combs, Paul Combs, Mike Hardin and Norman Brandt. Honorary casket bearers were his granddaughters, Lisa Stranske, Christie Stranske, Heather Janssen, Michelle Brandt, Megan Bulwan, Keli Combs, Catilyn Combs, and Terri Manning. Military graveside services were conducted by Geneva American Legion Sloan-Bolton Post No. 68 and Geneva V. F. W. Samuel J. Marsh Post No. 7102 at the Geneva Public Cemetery.
