Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Lone Tree. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the VFW in Riverside. Visitation for Bud will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed the Riverside Horseshoe League in Bud’s name. Bud was born on June 8, 1939, to Melvin and Blanche (Hora) Havel. He lived most of his life around Riverside, Iowa. He graduated in 1957 from Riverside High School with his five classmates. Bud was a farmer and a natural salesman. He held several jobs and owned and operated a Riverside tavern, Bud’s Place. In 1985, he opened his dream business with his name’s sake, Bud’s Custom Meats, Inc. Bud always enjoyed working with people and put in many long hours to make his business successful. Additionally, Bud and his family sold produce each summer. Bud retired in 1997, but continued to check in on the butcher shop as often as he could. Bud married Sandy Berodt on February 29, 1992. Through their retirement years, they traveled all around the world. They became snowbirds 16 years ago, spending their winters in Punta Gorda, Florida. Never the relaxer, Bud also spent his Florida time walking, making new friends, and even serving as the condo president. During the Iowa summers, Bud sold produce, fished as often as possible, played horseshoes, and spent time with his large family. Bud and Sandy spent many Sundays with their “Boat Bunch” at the casino. His favorite things were vacations, gatherings at the cabin with family and friends, and his Thursday night family dinners. He loved sports – especially the Hawkeyes and any sport his family was playing. He is preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Rita Musser Havel and Rosemary Beard Windus Havel; and two sisters, Darlene Sojka and Dorothy Olson.
