'Preach' Meyer Raymond ("Preach") Meyer, former Le Mars Golden Gloves boxer and a very popular athletic, espec-ially baseball player, died at St. Vincent's hospital in Sioux City Sunday morning of a heart ailment. His death was sudden. The former Le Mars athlete entered the army in World War 2 and boxed in numerous camps all over Europe. He also played baseball. Following is the report on his death: Mr. Meyer was born August 13. 1918, at Andover, S. D„ the son of Mr, and Mrs. Ed Meyer, former Le Mars residents. He married Janet Minter of Elk Point in 1940. Mr. Meyer had operated a grocery store at Elk Point for the last five years. He previously had worked as a grocery clerk in Sioux City for six years. He served 15 months in the European theater during world war 2, and was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors, besides the widow, include his father, three daughters, Marcienne, Rae Marie and Sandra Lee; a son, Terry Lee; two sisters, Mrs. Mary M. Richards and Mrs. Shirley Skinner, both of Sioux City; two brothers, Virgil of Sioux City and Ronald of Salem, Ore., and his father, Edward Meyer of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his mother. Funeral services will be at 9 a. m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic church at Elk Point. Rev. J. O'Brien will officiate. Military graveside ser-vices and burial will bo in St. Joseph cemetery at Elk Point. The rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. Tuesday at the Anderson funeral home at Elk Point.
