Description	:	Rebecca was the daughter of Thomas Ewart (1803 – 1854). Her parents were Presbyterians. They came from Carlisle, Cumberland, England, which is in the northwest corner near the border of Scotland. They were of Scottish origin. The Cumberland County, England branch of the family and the North Ireland branch of the family were both founded by the Ewarts of Mullock (a castle) near Kirkcudl, in the southwest corner of Scotland on the Solway Firth. Rebecca’s parents moved to Canada and bought an estate near Coteau-du-Lac, Quebec, just west of Montreal. Rebecca was born in Huntingdon, Quebec, Canada. She was the oldest girl in a family of 12 children. Rebecca married Samuel Clark. They eloped on horseback. She wore a calico dress and he wore overalls. They had an axe and 50 cents. They went to Toronto, Canada. Later they moved to Diller, Nebraska, to get their children away from the Catholic predominated church area in Canada. In Nebraska, they owned seven farms. The home place where they lived was seven miles southeast of Diller. They had 13 children. Their youngest child Victoria died at birth. Rebecca’s parents also moved from Canada. They lived in Davenport, Iowa for a while, then moved to Diller, Nebraska. Rebecca's mother died when Rebecca’s twin sisters were 8 years old.
