Description	:	Rebecca Elizabeth Strouss was the daughter of John and Rebecca (McElhaney) Strouss. She moved from her native Pennsylvania in 1856 to Port Washington, Wisconsin; in 1858, the family moved to Brown Township, Champaign County, Illinois. She married David Cooter in Champaign County on December 5, 1861. The Cooters lived in Webster City with the exception of a few years' residence on farms in the vicinity of Homer and Flugstad. Daily Freeman-Journal, Webster City, Hamilton County, Iowa, Wednesday, September 8, 1920: "Another Old Settler Dies Mrs. Rebecca Elizabeth Cooter Dies at Home of Daugher, Mrs. Mary Harris 78 Years of Age Six Children, Three Brothers and one Sister Survive Her Mrs. Rebecca Elizabeth Cooter, an old settler in this community, died last evening at 6 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Harris, 537 Bank street. Bright's disease was the cause of her death. She had been ill since last October but for the past six weeks her condition had gradually become worse. She was 78 years of age on July 20. Rev. Manson E. Miller will have charge of the funeral services which will be held at the Christian church tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Graceland cemetery. Rebecca Elizabeth Strose was born in Pennsylvania, near Pittsburg, July 20, 1842, and moved to Champaigne county, Illinois, with her parents when fifteen years of age. She was married to David Cooter, Dec. 5, 1861, and with him moved to Hamilton county, this state, 27 years ago. The greater part of that time they lived in Webster City with the exception of a few years' residence on farms in the vicinity of Homer and Flugstad. Twelve children were born to this union, six of whom survive. They are Mrs. Mary Harris of this city, Harry Cooter of Duncombe, A. H. Cooter of Duncombe, Mrs. Etta Nelson of Duncombe, Mrs. Rena Darnell of this city and Mrs. Lucy Taylor of Rothsay, Minn. Mr. Cooter died thirteen years ago. Mrs. Cooter also leaves three brothers and one sister to mourn her death."
