Description	:	Mrs. Rebecca Wise died at her residence in Paton, Greene County, Iowa, April 4, 1896, aged 72 years, 3 months and 10 days from pneumonia, after am illness of less than one week. She was born in Union county, Pennsylvania, being the daughter of John and Mary Highly, the oldest of seven children, four of whom are still living, one brother in Ohio , and one brother and two sisters in eastern Iowa. Read More	Mrs. Rebecca Wise died at her residence in Paton, Greene County, Iowa, April 4, 1896, aged 72 years, 3 months and 10 days from pneumonia, after am illness of less than one week. She was born in Union county, Pennsylvania, being the daughter of John and Mary Highly, the oldest of seven children, four of whom are still living, one brother in Ohio , and one brother and two sisters in eastern Iowa. When 18 years of age, she came to Crawford County, Ohio, and about a year later she married to Samuel Wise of the same county. To this couple were born six children, four sons and two daughters. In 1850 Mr. and Mrs. Wise came to Iowa and located in Cedar county, on a farm nine miles south of Tipton. Here, after spending about 7 years in making a home for themselves and children, this union was broken by the death of the husband and father, thus leaving the care of six children yo the widowed mother. Again, after 10 years death invaded the home, and John, the eldest of the children, was taken, dying in September 1867. In May 1876, Mrs. Wise, with her youngest son and two daughters settled in Paton, the other sons, Henry and Harvey, having located here in the spring of 1874. From the time of coming to Paton she resided continuously in the same house up to the time of her death. In July 1885, Charles, the youngest son, died and the mother and son sleep side by side in the Paton cemetery. The son Henry and Harvey live on farms adjoining Paton, and the daughters, Mrs. H. G. Erickson and Mrs. Johnson reside in that village. Besides the four children who are living, the deceased leaves nineteen grandchildren and many other relatives and friends to mourn her death. At an early age, Mrs. Wise as converted and united with the German Reformed Church, remaining a member of the same until after coming to Iowa, when she joined the German Reformed Church and remained an earnest member in that fellowship until she came to Paton, where , as there was no church of that denomination, she joined the Methodist Church of which he was a member at the time of her death. The funeral, which was held on Sunday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, was largely attended. Ref. Joshua Jester conducted the services. Mrs. Wise was born Christmas day, died on her 53rd wedding day and was buried in Easter. She sleeps the unconscious sleep of death, but knowing her trust in God during a long life, we look forward with bright hope t the morning of that day, when she and all who trusted in God shall come forth in the likeness of Him who said, "I am the Resurrection and the Life."
