Description	:	Retta May Hiatt, daughter of C.C. and Martha Hiatt, was born in Clinton county, Ohio, January 31, 1866, and departed this life February 4, 1939, aged 73 years and 4 days. She came from Ohio with her parents in a covered wagon when nine months of age. She with her parents settled on the farm just west of town known at present as the Tuttle place. Read More	Retta May Hiatt, daughter of C.C. and Martha Hiatt, was born in Clinton county, Ohio, January 31, 1866, and departed this life February 4, 1939, aged 73 years and 4 days. She came from Ohio with her parents in a covered wagon when nine months of age. She with her parents settled on the farm just west of town known at present as the Tuttle place. Later they moved to a farm in Page county, known as the C.C. Hiatt homestead. She was a successful school teacher, having taught 18 terms in Page and Taylor counties. On December 8, 1892, she was united in marriage at Clarinda to Kemp Goodlow Herren. For 31 years they spent their married life in Page and Taylor counties. To this union four children were born: Zetta Lenore, Ruby Lorene, Holly Lucille and James David. On January 23, 1923, her companion passed away. For 16 years she has made her home alone. She was a member of the Methodist church since girlhood. She always did her part when health permitted. She was a member of the present Methodist Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Sunshine class of the Methodist church. Tuesday, Jan 31, 1939, she celebrated her 73rd birthday with a birthday dinner. Twelve members of her class shared her birthday joy with her on that day. She was a woman of fine virtues and sterling character. Honesty was one of her chief characteristics. She leaves to mourn her death her children and their families: Mr and Mrs Walter Noble and Mr and Mrs Paul Clark of New Market; Mr and Mrs Ray McNutt of Omaha, Nebr, and Mr and Mrs David Herren of Pittsburg, Penn; eight grandchildren, Thomas Fredrick and Billy Kemp Noble, twins; Robert Burton; Mary Lou and Shirley Mae McNutt; Jimmie Herren Clark; Joyce Faye Herren and her youngest, John David Herren, to whom she was very devoted. She also leaves one brother, W.H. Hiatt, of Cleo Springs, Okla; two sisters, Mrs Lenna Hatfield of Hydro, Okla, and Mrs Ollie Andrew of Kansas City, Mo; several nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends and neighbors.
