Mr. Giffen a few years ago spent the summer preaching for the Presbyterian congregations at Woodsfield, Buchanan and New Castle. He was a good thinker, clear reasoner, had much oratorical ability, and was a true and devoted follower of the Savior. Every act of his life seemed to be directed aright. About two years ago he was married , and most of the time since then he has been preaching at Smithfield, Jefferson county. His death was due to consumption, from which disease he found no relief except in death. Mr. Giffen was a nephew of Mrs. Solomon Spangler of this place. His mother resides at Powhatan. /
