Description	:	Services for Rev. Cornie A. DeBruin, 91, of Pclla, who died October 1, 1988 at the Pella Community Nursing Home, were held October 4 at the Third Reformed Church in Pella. Interment was in the Black Oak Cemetery of Pella. The Garden Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The Revs. Dr. Delmar Thiesse and Henry Kolcnbrandcr officiated at the services. Music was provided by Judy Stccnhoek, organist, and Dennis and Bcv Brand, vocalists. Casket bearers were Walter Lepeltak, Donald Blom, Larry De Bruin, Keith De Bruin, Carrol Vis, and Keith Blom. Rev. De Bruin was born August 21, 1897, near Pella, the son of Jacob C. and Hendrika Tysseling DeBrum. On August 21, 1924, he was united in marriage with Frances Lepeltak. He attended Black Oak Center School, Central College, (B.A. & D.D.) University of Wisconsin, Western Theological Seminary, (M.A); Teachers College, Columbia University; University of Chicago (ThM.). He was a member of the Rotary Club in Vellore, India and in Pella. where he was voted the Rotanan of the Year in 1985. He was also an Army Chaplain in World War II. He was an educational and evangelistic missionary with additional financial responsibilities in India for almost 40 years. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Joyce Evelyn and James Dunham of Pclla; four sisters: Edna (Mrs. Gerrit) Van Roekel, Grace (Mrs. Gerrit) Vis, Clara (Mrs. William) Bolm, and Frances DeBruin, all of Pella; four brothers: Henry, Albert, Arnold all of Pella and Harold of Leighton; three grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Johanna; wife, Frances in 1971; a son in infancy, James Cornelius; and a granddaughter. A memorial has been established to the Division of World Mission, (From the Pella Chronicle October 7, 1988)
