Description	:	Jacob C. De Bruin, 89, lifelong resident and prominent citizen of this area, died early Friday morning at his home in Pella. He was a charter member, director and president for many years of the Farmers Savings bank at Leighton; he had served as a member of the board of trustees of Central College ever since its inception as a Reformed church school in 1917 and was an honorary member of the board at the time of his death; and had served in consistories of the Ebenezer Reformed church of Leighton and the Third Reformed church of Pella for a total of 63 years. De Bruin, 89, lifelong resident and prominent citizen of this area, died early Friday morning at his home in Pella. He was a charter member, director and president for many years of the Farmers Savings bank at Leighton; he had served as a member of the board of trustees of Central College ever since its inception as a Reformed church school in 1917 and was an honorary member of the board at the time of his death; and had served in consistories of the Ebenezer Reformed church of Leighton and the Third Reformed church of Pella for a total of 63 years. He was made an honorary elder of the latter church when he was no longer able to serve. Born the son of Cornelius and Johanna Reuvers De Bruin on August 16, 1870, on a farm six miles east of Pella, he was married in 1894 to Hendrike W. Tysseling, who died in 1903. On April 27, 1905, he was married to Johanna Bieshaar, who survives. From 1899 to 1936 he lived on the Black Oak Center farm southeast of Pella on Highway 163, and for the past 23 years lived at 216 Union street, Pella. Also surviving are three children of the first marriage, Cornie A. De Bruin who has been a missionary in India since 1926, and Henry W. De Bruin and Mrs. Gerrit (Edna) Van Roekel, both of Pella; six children of the second marriage, Albert and Arnold De Bruin, Mrs. Gerrit (Grace) Vis, Mrs. William (Clara) Blom and Frances De Bruin, all of Pella, and Harold De Bruin of Leighton; 19 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; four brothers and one sister, Dirk, Thomas C , and Marinus C. De Bruin and Mrs. Art Cumminga, all of Pella. Preceding him in death were two infant brothers, another brother, Will; a sister, Mrs. C. R. Van Heukelom; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A family prayer service was held Monday followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. at tho Third Reformed church, with Rev. Wilbur Ringnalda and Dr. Gerrit Menning officiating. Fred Whalley sang "Good Night and Good Morning" at the family prayer service. A quartet, Loren Vanden Oever, Dan E. Dieleman, Gordon Van Der Hart and Harvey Van Rooyen, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" at the church service. Mrs. Ralph De Cook was accompanist. Casket bearers were, James W. Dunham, Ray A. Van Roekel, Carroll L. Vis, James C. De Bruin, Herbert D. Blom and Larry E. De Bruin. Inttrment was at Black Oak cemetery.
