Family burial services were held at the Antioch Pioneer Cemetery. Haggard April 21, 1925 - August 10, 2007 ~`~ After an over six year battle with ALS, Forrest DeLoss Haggard, 82 of Lenexa, KS passed away in his home on August 10, 2007. Family burial services were held at the Antioch Pioneer Cemetery. Forrest was born April 21, 1925 in Trumbull, NE, the son of Arthur M. and Grace (Hadley) Haggard. He attended grade school in Nebraska and Colorado and graduated from Scottsbluff, NE High School in 1941. In 1946 he married Eleanor Evans. He earned his Bachelor, Masters, and Doctorate in Divinity from Phillips University and Phillips Theological Seminary. In addition he earned a Masters Degree in Psychology from the University of MO, Kansas City. In 1953, Dr. Haggard was called to the Overland Park Christian Church. This congregation grew from seven families to over 2500 members during the 37 years of his ministry. He was formally ordained in 1948 at University Place, Enid, OK. He held scores of local, national, and international positions in the Christian Church, including president of the World Convention of Christian Churches and the Christian Church International Executive Board. Dr. Haggard was former Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Kansas in 1974-75, one of twenty worldwide Masonic author members of the Blue Friars, and one of the Nine Muses. He was a Thirtythird degree Mason and had received the highest Scottish Rite Honor, The Grand Cross. Dr. Haggard and his wife established a medical clinic in the Jamaica mountains that in 1980 was named the Forrest and Eleanor Haggard Medical Clinic. From 1975-2006 Forrest inspired thousands of volunteers to serve in Jamaica as well as send equipment and medical supplies. Dr. Haggard established the Masonic Oncology Clinic at KU Medical Center, founding President and subsequently served on the Johnson County Mental Health Association Board of Directors, a member of the Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow, Lions International, Overland Park Police Department Chaplain, member of the Kansas Children's Service League and was a member and past president of Midwest Christian Counseling Center. The Kansas Scottish Rite honored his service with the endowment of the Forrest and Eleanor Haggard Speech Clinical Scholarship at KU. Dr. Haggard authored numerous Masonic and professional books including Clergy and the Craft, The History of Kansas Masonry, Exploration in Pastoral Counseling, and co-authored with Gene Amos Tales of the Minister and the Undertaker. Forrest was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bernard, son, William "Bill" and nephew James "Jim". He is survived by his wife, Eleanor (Evans) Haggard; a son, Warren "Skipper" Haggard, Tucson, AZ; daughter, Katherine Ann "Kate" Haggard Perry and her husband, Joseph A. Perry, Leawood, KS; four grandchildren, Peter J. Phillips, Caroline "Olivia" Perry, Charlotte Eleanor "Ella" Perry and John Forrest Haggard "Jack" Perry and Jim's wife Jeannette Fischer "Jan" Haggard. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to be made payable to the Overland Park Christian Church, 7600 W 75th Street, Overland Park, KS 66204. Contributions will be divided between the Overland Park Christian Church, MDA-ALS Division, Forrest and Eleanor Haggard Clinic Lawrence Tavern Jamaica, the Nelson/Haggard Chair at the University of the Caribbean, Haggard Scholarship Fund for Speech Clinicians at KU, The Keith Worthington ALS Chapter, NorthCare Hospice, Masonic Foundation/KU Oncology Center, and the Overland Park Arboretum.
