Read More	DEATH COMES TO ESTEEMED FORMER AKRON MINISTER A long and useful life came to a close on Thursday, November 29, 1961, when Rev. Fred A. Meske, a former widely known and highly esteemed resident of Akron and a pastor here for almost a half century, passed away at his home in Marshfield, Wisconsin; at,, the age of 79 years, 8 months and 15 days. Up to about a year ago he had been blessed with wonderful health; but then his eyesight began to fail and he submitted to several operations at the Iowa City Hospital. His health, however, had remained good until about two months ago, when he began to fail rapidly and declined until he was called to his eternal reward. The Rev. Fred A. Meske, son of Ferdinand and Ernestine Klabunde Meske, was born at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on March 14, 1872. When a few weeks old he was baptized at Peace Lutheran church at Oshkosh. He attended parochial school until 14 years of age, when he was confirmed. After working a few years in factories, he desired to become a minister of the gospel. He attended the Lutheran College and Seminary at Afton, Minnesota, and graduated in 1895. He was united in holy wedlock with Miss Emilie Borchert, of Town Penn (Brownton), Minnesota, on September 20, 1895. This union was blessed with four children; one son and three daughters. One daughter, Emilie, preceded her father in death in infancy. He was ordained into the holy ministry in May of 1896, and in November of the same year he accepted a call to Trinity Lutheran Church, Akron, Iowa. He was installed November 8, 1896, by the Rev. George Finke, of Le Mars, Iowa, and served this congregation continuously for more than forty-six years. In 1906 the Rev. Meske organized St. Matthew Lutheran church at Chatsworth, Iowa. He served Trinity, Akron, and St. Matthew, Chatsworth, until he retired from the active ministry on May 25, 1941. The Rev. and Mrs. Meske moved to Marshfield, Wisconsin, to make their new home. Until about a year ago, he preached almost every Sunday, filling vacant pulpits and acting as a supply pastor in various congregations in Wisconsin. Left to mourn are his devoted wife, two daughters, (Frances) Mrs. John Langholz, of Thornton, Iowa, and (Amanda) Mrs. Arthur Langholz, of Sumner, Iowa; one son Pastor Fred Meske, of Duluth, Minn.; two foster children, Edna Steinert, of Le Mars, and the Rev. Clarence Steinert, of Defiance, Ohio; two brothers, August Meske, of Akron, and Frank Meske, of Oshkosh, Wis.; nine grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the St. Matthew Lutheran church, Marshfield, Wis., on Saturday, December 1. Final services were conducted at Trinity Lutheran, Akron, on Monday afternoon, December 3, with a large attendance of former parishioners and friends. The Rev. John Langholz read the scripture, the Rev. Fred Meske, Jr. preached the sermon, Rev. Clarence Steinert read the obituary and the Rev. Arthur Langholz had the closing prayer. The local pastor, Rev. J.A. Pannkuk, had charge of the committal service in Riverside cemetery. Special music was provided by Gary, Carl and Raymond Hartmann, with Mrs. Pannkuk as organist. The bereaved wife and all their children, sons-in-laws and families were here for the final rites Monday.
