D., of Sioux Center, passed away, May 26th, at the home of his youngest sou. Mr. A.G. DePree, after a lingering illness of several months. Funeral services were held Monday at the First Reformed church, which Rev. DePree served as pastor for thirty years. 57 years of service in the ministry is the record of this fine man, a notable figure in the pioneer history of the county. A great concourse atended the funeral, the audience numbeing many prominent people of Sioux county. Dr. F. Lubbers, the present pastor, was in charge, assisted by other ministers of the Reformed church. Rev. DePree was born at Axtel, Netherlands, Nov. 29, 1845. He came to America with the colonists to Zeeland, Mich. Sept. 4, 1849. His parents were Jan DePree and Magdalena Maria Meulendyk. He was married July 17th, 1870 to Miss Johanna Bolks, a daughter of Rev. and Mrs. S. Bolks. He graduated from Hope College, Holland, Mich., in July 1867 and from Western Theological Seminarry in 1870. The same year, on Aug. 21st, he was ordained and installed at Spring Lake, Mich. Ten years later he accepted the call from the Sioux Center church and was installed on July 18th, 1880, serving as the frst minister of a newly organized church, where he continued for 30 years as pastor. On August 21, 1910 he was installed at North Yakima, Wash., but resigned a year later on ccount of ill health. He returned to Sioux Center after his retirement from the ministry and made his home here until his death. Rev. DePree is survived by his wife, Mrs. Johanna DePree, six children and 18 grandchildren. One daughter and one grandchild have passed away. The children are Mrs. Gerrit Boeyink, Sioux Center; Dr. S.B. DePree, Holland. Mich.; Rev. James DePree, D.D., Paola, Kan.; Mrs. Henry Evenhuis, Chicago; Neal DePree, Hawarden; Albert G. DePree, Sioux Center. He was an uncle of H. B. Bolks, of this place.
