Description	:	Rev. Joseph 'Jack' B. Denning, 70, of Davenport, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005 at his home. He was born July 6, 1935 at Houghton, the son of Joseph James and Nellie Freesmeier Denning. Survivors include four sisters, Ruth Mertens of Burlington, Laverne (husband Vernon) Coffey of Fort Madison, Sr. Jane Denning OSF, of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Phyllis (husband Paul) Steffensmeier of Donnellson; one brother, James (wife Eileen) Denning of Houghton; and several nieces and nephews. Read More	Rev. Joseph 'Jack' B. Denning, 70, of Davenport, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005 at his home. He was born July 6, 1935 at Houghton, the son of Joseph James and Nellie Freesmeier Denning. Survivors include four sisters, Ruth Mertens of Burlington, Laverne (husband Vernon) Coffey of Fort Madison, Sr. Jane Denning OSF, of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Phyllis (husband Paul) Steffensmeier of Donnellson; one brother, James (wife Eileen) Denning of Houghton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Rev. Denning attended St John's School in Houghton, Iowa State University, Ames, and St. Ambrose University, Davenport. He completed four years of seminary study at North American College, Rome, Italy, where he was ordained a priest Dec. 18, 1960. Rev. Denning served as Parochial Vicar for St. Mary's in Albia, St Patrick in Clinton, and Our Lady of Lourdes in Bettendorf. He served as Pastor at St. Mary's in West Burlington, Sacred Heart in Newton, St Wencelaus in Iowa City, St Joseph's in DeWitt, St. Paul the Apostle in Davenport, and the Church of the Visitation in Camanche. He retired July 1, 2004 while serving in Camanche. His Diocesan responsibilities were the Priest Personnel Board, Marriage Tribunal of Second Instance Judge, Diocesan Consulter, Presbyterial Council, Catholic Messenger Board, and he served as Vicar for the Vicariate of Iowa City. Visitation was held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Davenport, where there was a wake service at 6 p.m. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3 at St. John's Catholic Church in Houghton, with the Rosary to be recited at 3 p.m. and a wake service at 7 p.m. The mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 at St John's Catholic Church in Houghton. Burial will be in the St. John's Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Catholic school of the donor's choice.
