Read More	BUSCH, Richard A "Dick" September 20 1920 -January 18 2007 Dick was born into a large family of eight brothers and sisters to Pete and Julia Busch in Uniontown Washington. He graduated from West Valley High School in Spokane WA where he met his wonderful Lee his lifelong bride of 65 years. Following graduation, he attended Washington State University and received a degree in civil engineering. He also attended Harvard University for graduate work and received a Master’s degree from University of Oklahoma. Dick served as a captain with the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II serving the Pacific. Soon after the end of the war Dick returned to Spokane his young wife and family and took a teaching position at Gonzaga University in the Engineering Department. Throughout his 35-year career at Gonzaga, Dick not only instructed hundreds of students he also served as the varsity baseball coach for 26 of those years. Coach Busch mentored and developed many aspiring baseball players and helped build four of the baseball fields on which they competed. Coach Busch was the academic advisor to the athletic department and instrumental In Gonzaga's entry into the West Coast Conference. In 1965 he was selected Big Sky conference Coach of the Year and coached Gonzaga baseball to a Big Sky Championship. Busch was also instrumental in starting a chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers at Gonzaga which has assisted in bringing together all undergraduate civil engineering students at engineering schools throughout the Northwest to provide insights Into their professional tenure. He also worked for the US Bureau of Mines following his retirement from Gonzaga Dick was a member of the Spokane Country Club and St Thomas More Parish Notable achievements included honors for Spokane Chapter of the American Civil Engineers "Engineer of the Year" Award in 1973 and selection into the Gonzaga University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989. He was also recognized by the Bulldog Club Golf Tournament as it’s service award recipient in 1999. Dick is survived by his wife Lee Busch and daughters Ricki (Dennis) Cox Cathy (Bob) Comfort and sons Mike (Marguerite) Busch and Chris (Mary) Busch He is also survived by two brothers Tom and Bob Busch. His family includes 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 23 from 12:00 to 5:00 pm. Vigil Service will be held on Tuesday, January 23 at 7:30 pm at St Thomas More Parish 505 W St Thomas More Way. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrate his life on Wednesday, January 24th at 11:00 am at St Thomas More Parish officiated by his nephew Fr Gary Lombardi from Petaluma California. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund for St Thomas More Parish 505 W St Thomas More Rd Spokane WA 99208. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home & Crematory 2203 N Division Spokane WA 99207
