He departed this life Friday morning, June 24, 1988 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, at the age of 68 years and 28 days. Richard was married November 9, 1954 to Marie Velder. To this happy union three children were born: two sons, Frank and James; and one daughter, Joan Majer. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elizabeth Schropfer; five brothers, Karl, Frank Jr., Philip, Raymond and Joseph. He is survived by his wife Marie; two sons, Frank of Hastings, and James at home; one daughter, Joan Majer of Kearney; four grandchildren; two sisters, Christina L. Miller, Harvard, and Sister Ambrosia, A.S.C. of Red Bud, Ill.; many nieces, nephews and friends. Richard will be remembered as a loving father, husband, grandfather and brother. Richard (Dick) attended grade school at Catherton School southwest of Bladen, and graduated from Bladen High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1941 to 1945. After discharge from the service, he worked as a mechanic at Ruff Motor Co., Broken Bow, and at Harold Robb Pontiac garage in Minden. In 1968, Richard started his own business, Haller Auto Repair, and due to ill health, retired in 1985. From 1985 until a few months before his death he enjoyed his special hobby of refinishing furniture and doing all types of woodwork, plus hunting and fishing. The rosary was recited at eight o'clock p.m. Sunday at St. John's Catholic Church in Minden of which he was a member. Services were held at ten o'clock a.m., Monday June 27, 1988, at St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. James O'Connor officiating, and Rev. Steve Reiter of York assisting. Interment was in the Minden Cemetery and the America Legion Post 94 assisting with the burial services. Layton Funeral Home of Minden was in charge of arrangements.
