Conley, 65, a resident of Federal Way for the past 30 years, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, following a brief, but hard fought, bout with cancer. He was born on Feb. 2, 1933, in Brewster, to Robert E. and Evelyn C. (Trapp) Conley. Dick was raised in Orondo and in his youth worked in the family orchard at Orondo. He attended grade school in Orondo, junior high in East Wenatchee and then Wenatchee High School where he graduated in 1951. He joined the U.S. Navy on Feb. 7, 1952, in Seattle. He earned the National Defense, the Korean Service, the China Service and the Good Conduct medals. He was discharged on Jan. 31, 1956, at San Francisco. He then returned to Orondo and attended Wenatchee Valley Junior College for a year. Dick had worked in the sheet metal industry for all of his adult life. He first worked at Morris Hardware in Wenatchee for several years as a journeyman sheet metal worker. He was married to Patricia Ann Hyde on April 21, 1961, at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Dick worked at Moses Lake for John Henry Sheet Metal for seven years. He moved to Federal Way in 1969 and had since resided there. He then worked as a journeyman sheet metal worker and foreman for John and then Mike Henry Sheet Metal in Renton; for Jack Frost Co. of Tacoma and for Design Air in Kent. He retired in 1995. As a youth he was a Cub Scout and as an adult he was active in Scouting, including having served as a Webelo den leader. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local No. 66 in the Seattle-Tacoma area. He had been a member of the American Legion Post in Wenatchee; the Moses Lake and Federal Way Elks Lodge, as well as the Lake Chelan Yacht Club where, for over 15 years, he served in the committee work to include the annual cleaning, maintenance, dinners and family activities. He is survived by his wife, Pat Conley, of the family home in Federal Way; two sons, Michael D. Conley of Federal Way and Gary S. Conley of Kent; his mother, Evelyn C. "Granny" Conley of Orondo; one sister and her husband, Jeanne and Darrell Hanan of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; one brother and his wife, Dale and Emily Conley of Roosevelt; and three grandchildren, Bridget Conley, Darik Krone and Kendra Conley. Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 5th St., Hoquiam. Buried: 24 Jul 1998
