Description	:	On October 27, 2006, Richard J. Epp, 70, of Fairbury, Nebraska, went home to be with his Savior. Richard, the son of Herman and Frieda (Jantzen) Epp, was born in Beatrice, Nebraska, on November 12, 1935, and grew up in the Plymouth area. Read More	On October 27, 2006, Richard J. Epp, 70, of Fairbury, Nebraska, went home to be with his Savior. Richard, the son of Herman and Frieda (Jantzen) Epp, was born in Beatrice, Nebraska, on November 12, 1935, and grew up in the Plymouth area. He attended school in the rural Plymouth area and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1953, where his interests included playing basketball, participating in track events, and pulling harmless pranks. Richard publicly professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at the First Mennonite Church west of Beatrice. In 1955, Richard moved to Fairbury and started a dairy farm with his father. On June 19, 1963, Richard married his sweetheart, Marilyn G. Penner, and they operated the dairy together for many years. Richard and Marilyn had two daughters, Stephanie Epp and Pamela (Epp) Olsen, who were the pride and joy of his life. Until his death, Richard continued to farm and, most recently, was a truck driver for a local custom silage cutting business. Richard derived great joy from the relationships he built all over the region through this work. During his career, Richard was a member and on the board of the Jefferson County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, served on the Farmers Coop Elevator board in Fairbury, was a charter member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau, and was active with the Mid-America Dairy Association. Richard was an innovator in his profession, being the first farmer in his area to use chemigation, design and implement a free stall system, and utilize a crop consultant. Richard was a talented fix-it man, and not just with duct tape and bale wire. His daughters remember him as a father who never missed a spelling bee, concert, parent-teacher conference, 4-H event, speech contest, or any other activity in which they were involved. Richard always had time for his nieces and nephews and took an active interest in all the young people with whom he came in contact. Richard had a lively sense of humor and quick wit, and he never met a person he didn't like. Richard and Marilyn attended Christ Community Church in Beatrice. Richard is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters and son-in-law Stephanie Epp of Normal, Illinois, and Pamela and Douglas Olsen of Harrisburg, Nebraska; brothers and sisters-in-law Kenneth and Erna Epp and Alan Dean and Eunice Epp; sister and brother-in-law Lucille and Roger Engbrecht; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Herman (1960) and Frieda (2005). Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Christ Community Church in Beatrice with Pastor Jack Magness officiating. Burial will be in the First Mennonite Cemetery of rural Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Tuesday at the church. A memorial has been established to Christ Community Church with the Dwaine Friesen and Gerald Grabowski in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 5:00 P.M. Saturday until 9:00 P.M. Monday and then on Tuesday at the church one hour preceding the services. A guestbook for signatures and messages of condolence is available online at www.foxfuneralhome.net.
