Description	:	Clinton-Richard L. Bates, 65, formerly of Lancaster, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at UMass Memorial Healthcare-University Campus in Worcester after being stricken ill. He is survived by two sisters, Joanne Bisceglia, wife of the late Clement Bisceglia, and Janice Aubuchon and her husband Leo, all of Leominster; a sister-in-law, Joan Bates of Wells, ME; nieces and nephews, Jill Castonguay of Orange, Amy Risotti of Baldwinville, Beth, John and Michael Bisceglia of Leominster, Jeffrey Aubuchon of Spencer and James Aubuchon of Fitchburg. He is survived by two sisters, Joanne Bisceglia, wife of the late Clement Bisceglia, and Janice Aubuchon and her husband Leo, all of Leominster; a sister-in-law, Joan Bates of Wells, ME; nieces and nephews, Jill Castonguay of Orange, Amy Risotti of Baldwinville, Beth, John and Michael Bisceglia of Leominster, Jeffrey Aubuchon of Spencer and James Aubuchon of Fitchburg. He leaves 14 great-nieces and nephews, one great-great nephew, numerous cousins and many dear friends, especially Richard O'Malley of Clinton. He is predeceased by his brother Donald A. Bates, who died in 2003. Richard was born in Clinton to the late Albert F. and Evelyn (O'Malley) Bates. He was raised in Lancaster and graduated from the Nashoba Regional High School Class of 1963. Richie began employment with the Ray-O-Vac Corporation, formerly of Clinton prior to joining the former Van Brode Company. He ultimately retired from the Weetabix Cereal Company in 2009 as Assistant Purchasing Agent after nearly thirty years. He held membership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Smithsonian Institution, and Polish American Veterans. Richie held a great interest in history and displayed his knowledge at various local trivia events throughout Worcester County. He was proud of his Irish heritage and most enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. Funeral services are to be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 809 Main St., Lancaster. Burial is to follow at St. John Cemetery in Lancaster.
