Richard Nitschke, son of Gottlieb Christian and Katherina (Heyd) Nitschke was born March 25, 1921 on the family farm near Ashley, ND. He was united in marriage to Lillian Hoffman on November 30, 1947 in St. James Lutheran Church in Leola, SD. They made their home on Richard’s farm northeast of Ashley where they raised small grains and livestock. His wife died in 2005 and in 2010 he moved to Fargo to be closer to his family. Richard enjoyed gardening, raising fruit trees and tending to his cows. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a former member of the church council. Surviving Richard are two daughters, Patricia (Douglas) Person of Fargo and Carolyn (William) Dittman of Killdeer, ND; two sisters, Elsie Hoffman of Aberdeen and Bertha Eszlinger of Ashley; one brother, Roland Nitschke of Ashley; two grandchildren, Tammy McLaughlin and Sandy Enney and four great-grandchildren, Ivy Marie Enney, Ethan Enney, Isabella McLaughlin and Brooklyn McLaughlin. His parents, wife, Lillian (2-7-05), four brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Casketbearers will be Kenneth Nitschke, Rosalyn Meidinger, Allen Nitschke, Ramona Hoffman, Elaine Hoffman, Delbert Eszlinger and Wayne Hoffman. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
