Onnen & Ethel Jans married March 30,1927 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron.They farmed east of Akron until their frist daughter Elaine Tena was born in 1927.They had a farm sale and moved to town to a little house on the Onnen estate there were the second daughter Bessie Jean was born in 1929.Then they moved to a farm owned by John Thatcher were son Chalmer Odean was born.Then back to Akron were they had Jerome Richard.1936 Richard went to Minnesota to harvest corn and potatoes.That year their son Wayne Robert was born prematurely and didn't survive.Richard died... ONNEN Richard Onnen departed this life last Tuesday evening, October 29, 1974, at our Akron Nursing Home, following several months of illness. He was 72 years of age. Richard F. Onnen was born June 4, 1902, at Westfield, Iowa. He was the youngest son of Christ and Elizabeth Martsfield Onnen. When but a lad he moved to Morris, Minnesota. There he lived until he was a young man. Then he moved back to Akron and here he has lived ever since. He was baptized in infancy and on October 17, 1926, he was received into communicant membership of Immanuel Lutheran Church by rite of confirmation. Pastor Oscar F. Bohman was confirmation pastor. At a marriage service in Immanuel Church March 30, 1927, he was united in marriage to Miss Ethel E. Jans. Pastor Oscar Bohman officiated. For one year they lived on a farm. Then they sold out and moved to Akron and have lived in town ever since. Mr. Onnen has during his residence here made many friends. He was the type of person who was truly likalbe-whereever one met him. He through his labor came into contact with many people. During later years he did many errands and chores for his neighbors and acquaintances. Among those who survive his departure are: his wife, Mrs. Ethel Onnen; his two daughters, Mrs. Elaine Huls and Mrs. Bessie Bernhardt, both of Akron; his son Chalmer Onnen of Alcester, South Dakota; his brother Chris Onnen of Iowa City, Iowa; his 11 grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his two sons, Jerome Richard and Wayne Robert. The funeral service in his memory was held at Immanuel Lutheran Church last Friday forenoon, November 1, 1974, with Pastor David J. Roy, officiating. Phyllis Frisk, organist, accompanied Carol Harris as she sang "Lord, I'm Coming Home" and "Rock of Ages". Michael and Timothy Bernhardt, Darwin Huls, James Huls, and Jerome Onnen were casket bearers.
