Born Aug. 4, 1920, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Morton H. and Mary C. Bremhorst Amborn. He married Maxine I. Dow May 5, 1951, in Fort Madison. A lifelong resident of Fort Madison, he was an electrician, retiring with 50 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1805 and American Legion Post 82, a 50-year member of Boy Scouts of America, retired member of Local 13 IBEW and Fort Madison Board of Electrical Examiners, served as past Scout Master of Troops 7 and 29, was past Grand Knight of 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, and was past Faithful Navigator of 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife; one son, Michael Amborn of Fort Madison; three daughters, Patricia Molitor of Ruthven, Barbara Wollner of Panora, and Elizabeth Gnann of Niota, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; one brother, John E. Amborn of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Bernardine Amborn of Fort Madison; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Visitation will begin after noon today at King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, with a wake service at 7 p.m. followed by the family receiving friends until 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Amborn will be 1030 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison, with the Rev. Tim Sheedy officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Aquinas Band and Drill Team.
